Exchange ActiveSync on your G1!

If you're like me then you've been waiting for a solid option for accessing your Microsoft Exchange based email for quite some time. Not opening OWA in your browser or dealing with apps that you pay 20$ for only to watch crash every other time they are opened.
It was announced that the HTC Magic would come with a "Work Email" app from HTC that was not to be released for other phones or to the Android market, but that doesn't mean it wasn't going to make it's way to the web eventually. This time the app made it to the web before the phone it was supposed to be released on was even launched!
Now everyone with a G1 (or any android phone) can enjoy the "Work Email" Exchange ActiveSync app included on the HTC Magic (myTouch3G)!
You can install the app by simply clicking on the following link from your Android browser:
Download Work Email for Android.
I've also taken the liberty of posting the T-Mobile Sherpa app for users to download from their Android browser:
Download Sherpa for Android.
Or scan one of the QR codes below to download:

You can thank the fellas at xda-developers for this one, if you have any trouble downloading please leave a comment.

Hi there, i tried the options specified by vp. now i am getting Error: Your Microsoft Exchange Server account does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact you Exchange Server administrator. earlier i was getting “Failed to create the account. Please try again later.”
i have tried touchdown and it worked fine but don’t want to pay for it yet.
So, do i need to contact my company’s support to get some particular access to my account. They may or may not give that access. How could touchdown work and not the work email app?
Please fix it or give right suggestions !!!
Regards,
Zia

This app works great with one problem. It will not let me download attachemnts. This was an issue (I Thought) with Android 1.5 and Exchange 2010, but I have since upgraded to 2.1. Since I am having the same issue with attachments, could this be an issue with the mail app and exchange 2010?

Hi I installed the app on my Galaxy S (2.1) successfully, however when I try to connect to my push mail server, which I my user name must have a space in the string, the work mail auto eliminate the space which made the account authentication failed.
Can you remove the auto concat of the string please?

If you cannot download attachments, it may be deactivated by the exchange server administrator.
First users problems could be due to not having a public certificate on the exchange server installed. We had that issue with iphones and windows mobile phones, iphones could connect just fine. Windows didn’t allow syncing until we purchased a thawte.com certificate from psw.net for the mail domain and installed it on the server.

Why does this app require permission to “dial phone numbers of services that can cost me money”? No other activesync app needs that, why does yours?
…Or is this scamware?

I was able to install on a DroidX with firmware 2.1-update1. The folks at work helped me to enable my account for ActiveSync (which may have been problem for one of the folks listed above). I entered all the settings the help desk gave me but I keep running into login/password error. Any ideas on how to debug this further?
