Battlefield 1943: A not-so-smooth release…

Yesterday, 7/8/2009, Battlefield 1943 was released for download on the XBOX Live Marketplace. Apparently EA was unprepared and did not anticipate such a huge response to this release. Users who downloaded this new title were upset to find out that the could not "find a quickmatch" because EA's servers could not handle the load of all of the anxious new BF1943 owners trying to play at the same time.

In response to this overwhelming flood of new users, EA (or whoever controls XBL Markeplace pricing) changed the price of BF1943 from 1,200 Microsoft points to 90,000 Microsoft points, approximately $1,125. Of all possible solutions this was probably the worst, deterring many people (even friends of mine) from buying the game at all.

Overpriced arcade game? (90,000pts = $1,125)

Let me tell you, the game is well worth the 1,200 points it was (and again is) on sale for. The graphics are astounding and the game play is to die for. For any classic BF1942 fans out there, this is a must have! The best new feature of BF1943 over BF1942 is the destructible environments, not only does it look really cool when you blow the walls off a building or knock down a fence, but the ability to do so adds entirely new strategy to the game. One of the first games I played I found a building full of enemy players, I proceeded to throw a grenade at the wall in the back of the building. This blew a hole large enough for me to walk through and I surprised the enemy players with another grenade.

Don't just take my word for it, go try it yourself!
